Hytale Update 3 Patch Notes: Animal Taming, Sickles, Fire Spread, and Localization
Full breakdown of Hytale Update 3 featuring animal taming, map markers, sickles, climbing overhaul, fire spread system, localization support, and hundreds of fixes.

Hytale Update 3 has landed, four weeks into Early Access. This update is packed with headline features including animal taming, custom map markers, sickles, a climbing overhaul, and the beginning of localization support. Hypedrop has also laid out their release cadence going forward: weekly pre-release patches for testing, bundled into stable updates every 2 to 6 weeks.
Beyond regular updates, Hypixel Studios is building what they call chapters—larger content drops that unfold the Cursebreaker arc in Exploration Mode. Each chapter progresses Hytale through Early Access until the final chapter brings Orbis within reach and the game enters full release.
Let's break down everything in Update 3.
Animal Taming
The most anticipated feature in Update 3 is the early version of animal taming. Friendly animals you encounter during your adventures can now be tamed if you have their favorite food in hand.
Once tamed, animals offer several interactions:
- Pet them with an empty hand
- Feed them occasionally to keep them happy
- Some animals can be milked, sheared, or mounted
- Tamed animals won't run from players unless hit
- They'll occasionally greet you when you're nearby
This is just the first iteration—expect taming to expand significantly in future updates.
User-Placed Map Markers
A major quality-of-life addition: custom map markers. You can now create markers anywhere on your map with customizable names, icons, and colors.
Key features:
- Share markers with other players in multiplayer
- New gameplay settings to toggle marker visibility on map and compass
- Delete markers via the map context menu
- Updated map marker icons with improved display resolution
- Compass now shows different icons based on vertical distance (above/below you)
- Teleport option hidden for markers in Adventure gamemode
This is a significant improvement for multiplayer coordination and solo navigation alike.
Localization
Brazilian Portuguese and Russian are now available as in-game language options, marking the first phase of Hytale's localization efforts. Community translators played a key role in making this happen, and additional languages will follow in the coming weeks.
Supporting this, Update 3 adds:
- Font fallback support—the client fetches glyphs from fallback fonts when missing
- Noto Sans as a secondary fallback font for Cyrillic glyphs
- Reworked item tooltips for better localization support
- Increased dimensions of UI elements to accommodate translated text
Avatar Presets
You can now edit, save, and swap between up to 5 avatar customizations. A confirmation message appears when attempting to swap presets with unsaved changes, and a preset counter has been added to the Add Preset button.
Sickles
A new tool type: Sickles. These are purpose-built for farming and can harvest multiple crops in a single swing, making large-scale farming significantly more efficient.
Climbing Overhaul
Climbing has been completely reworked with new movement options:
- Side-stepping while climbing
- Dropping down from ropes
- Rotating around ropes
This makes vertical traversal far more flexible and responsive.
Fire Spread System & Goblin Flamethrower
A new fire spread system powered by a fluid ticker has been added, along with the Goblin Flamethrower weapon that unleashes flames on nearby foes. Both are currently Creative mode only, but the underlying system sets the groundwork for fire mechanics in Adventure mode.
Grass Spreading
Random block ticking is now in the game, enabling grass to spread naturally across dirt blocks. A small but immersive world simulation improvement.
Anchor UI System
A new Anchor UI system allows server plugins to add UI elements to client pages like the world map. This is a foundational feature for modders—expect more predefined anchor points in future updates.

What This Means for Server Operators
Anchor UI System: The new anchor system lets your plugins inject UI elements into client pages like the world map. Start planning custom UI integrations now.
Mod Management Improvements: Version checks, duplicate detection, and startup validation give you better control over your server's mod ecosystem. Mod validation issues now block startup unless explicitly flagged.
Fire Spread System: Currently Creative-only, but the underlying fluid ticker system will eventually apply to Adventure mode. Plan ahead for fire-related griefing protection.
Security Patches: Two critical fixes—directory traversal and command execution on behalf of other players—make this a mandatory update for all server operators.
Localization Support: With Brazilian Portuguese and Russian now supported and more languages incoming, your server can reach a broader international audience.
What This Means for Players
Animal taming is here: Even in its early form, taming adds a new layer of gameplay. Find your favorite animal, bring the right food, and build your own companion collection.
Farming got a major tool: Sickles harvesting multiple crops per swing makes large farms practical instead of tedious.
Navigation is better: Custom map markers with sharing support, improved compass icons, and better player name rendering make exploring and coordinating with friends much smoother.
More ways to look unique: With 6 new haircuts, 4 facial hair styles, new clothing, and avatar presets, character customization has taken a big step forward.
Climbing feels right: The climbing overhaul with side-stepping and rope rotation makes vertical exploration genuinely fun.
Update 3 is the largest patch since Early Access launched, touching nearly every system in the game. The animal taming foundation, localization support, and modding improvements signal that Hytale is building toward something much bigger with the Cursebreaker arc chapters ahead.
