What's Coming to Hytale: Animal Taming, Flamethrowers, and Major Quality of Life Updates
Preview the exciting new features coming soon to Hytale, including animal taming, custom map markers, improved climbing, and gameplay improvements that will transform your server experience.

Hytale's pre-release branch is packed with exciting new features that will soon be rolling out to all players. From animal taming to custom map markers and a host of quality-of-life improvements, these updates are set to transform how players experience the game - and what you can offer on your server.
Here's everything server owners and players need to know about what's coming.
Animal Taming Arrives
The most anticipated feature is finally here: basic animal taming!
Players can now tame friendly animals by offering their favorite foods. Once tamed, these companions can be:
- Petted with an empty hand
- Fed to keep them happy
- Milked or sheared (depending on the animal)
- Mounted for transportation
Tamed animals won't flee from players unless attacked, and they'll even greet their owners occasionally. This opens up massive possibilities for servers:
- Farming servers can build animal sanctuaries
- RPG servers can create pet collection quests
- Survival servers gain new progression systems around animal care
Custom Map Markers Change Navigation Forever
Players can now create custom markers anywhere on the map with:
- Customizable names
- Custom icons and colors
- Multiplayer sharing - mark locations for your whole server
This is a game-changer for community servers. Players can:
- Mark resource gathering spots
- Tag community builds
- Create shared waypoint systems
- Build collaborative exploration maps
Server owners can leverage this for treasure hunts, guided tours, or faction territory marking.
Avatar Presets: 10 Looks, One Click
Players can now save up to 10 different avatar customizations and swap between them instantly. Combined with expanded customization options including:
- New haircuts (Spikey Mohawk, Magical Pigtails, Bubble Braids)
- Facial hair styles (Viking Beard, Anchor Beard, Pinstripe Moustache)
- New clothing (Plaid Skirt, Punk Skirt, Spiked Bracelets)
- Additional eye shapes and makeup variations
This makes roleplaying servers significantly more dynamic - players can switch between different character "outfits" without recreating their entire look.
New Weapons & Combat Improvements
Goblin Flamethrower
A new fire spread system enables the devastating Goblin Flamethrower (currently creative mode only). This weapon unleashes flames on nearby foes with updated VFX and faster attack speed.
Once available in survival, this will add an entirely new combat dynamic to PvP and PvE encounters.
Sickles for Efficient Farming
New sickles can harvest multiple crops in a single swing, dramatically speeding up farming operations. This is huge for:
- Economy servers with crop trading
- Survival servers with large-scale agriculture
- Faction servers managing territory farms
Necromancy Grimoire Buffs
Necromancy builds just got significantly better:
- Summons no longer damage their summoner (and vice versa)
- Summons respond when you're attacked, not just when attacking
- Faster, more aggressive minions
- Ranged skeletal variants added to summon variety
Climbing System Overhaul
Rope climbing is now far more versatile with:
- Side-stepping along ropes
- Dropping down controlled descents
- Rotating around rope positions
This opens up new parkour possibilities, vertical maze designs, and climbing challenges for adventure servers.
Quality of Life Improvements
These updates pack dozens of smaller improvements that make gameplay smoother:
Inventory Management
- Shift-dragging quickly transfers items between inventories
- "Take All" button for processing bench outputs
- Sort keybind now works in player inventory
- Shortbows and crossbows can use ammo directly from backpack
Building & Crafting
- Instant crafting for crude early-game items
- Reduced craft times for Builder's Bench and Chicken Coops
- Large Kweebec Chests now support placing blocks on top
World Interaction
- Doors no longer close when blocked by entities
- Teleporters require clearing distance before reuse
- Grass now spreads via random block ticking
Modding & Server Tools
Server owners and modders gain powerful new capabilities:
Anchor UI System
Plugins can now add custom UI elements to client pages like the world map. This enables:
- Custom HUD elements
- Map overlays
- Information displays
Mod Management
- Enable/disable mods per-save from
UserData/Saves/<save>/mods - Server version checks for plugins and asset packs
- Better validation and warnings for missing mods
- Skip mod validation option for single-player
Debug Tools

Language Support Expansion
Brazilian Portuguese and Russian are now available as in-game languages, with more coming soon. This significantly expands your potential player base if you run a multilingual server.
The client now supports font fallbacks for non-Latin languages, making community servers accessible to players worldwide.
